Bendigo, Robert Allen Robert Allen Bendigo LEBANON Robert Allen Bendigo, 70, of North Little Rock, Ark., passed away Monday. Born in Lebanon, April 5, 1937, he was a son of Glenn E. and Leah Eleanor Harpel Bendigo. After high school, Robert attended The Citadel, Charleston, S.C., on a fouryear scholarship, where he lettered all four years. After graduating in 1958 from The Citadel, he continued his education at Lehigh University, where he earned a master’s degree in civil engineering. In 1960, Robert joined the Army Corps of Engineers until honorably discharged in 1962 as a first lieutenant. Robert began his career with Bethlehem Steel, Pittsburgh, and subsequently Pinole, Calif., and Pottstown, working there for 15 years. In 1976, Robert moved his family to North Little Rock, and began his 28-year career with AFCO Steel until he retired in 2004 as the senior vice president of operations. Following his retirement, he began consulting work for Industrial Steel Construction Inc., Hodgkins, Ill., and Gary, Ind. Bob found time to hunt and fish with his friends, hunting in Arkansas, Mexico and Canada. He was a faithful member of the North Little Rock Elks Lodge 1004, serving in numerous roles, including past exalted ruler, district deputy grand esquire, and past district deputy Grand Lodge-Arkansas East. He was an active member of The Citadel Alumni Association. Robert was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, North Little Rock, Ark., serving on the pastoral relations committee and the Church Council. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Nancy Elizabeth Behney Bendigo; a son, David (Tonya) Bendigo, Fort Worth, Texas; a daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Rusher, Vilonia, Ark.; five grandchildren, Heather, Megan and Hunter Rusher and Mason and Madeline Bendigo; a sister, Ann Lowery, Lenox, Mass. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock.
