Richard V. Hoke, 73, of Hanover, died on Tuesday, August 23, 2005, at home. He was the son of Chester J. Hoke and Elizabeth (Millhouse) Hoke, and the husband of Constance (Belli) Hoke. Mr. Hoke graduated from Eichelberger High School, Class of 1950. He attended The Citadel and later graduated from Gettysburg College, in 1954. He received a masterfs degree in guidance and counseling, in 1956, from Temple University, and over the years attended McDaniel University and Millersville University for continuing education professional certifications in school administration and school psychology. He began his education career at Spring Grove High School, teaching French, and counseling in the guidance department. Mr. Hoke then served in the military as a commanding officer at Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas and at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, and as an instructor, at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. He also was stationed in South Vietnam, as an advisor in civil affairs and education. Later, as a civilian, he worked in the Hanover Public School System as an elementary school teacher, and later, as a principal, and as director of special education and pupil personnel. Once retired, he taught adjunct at York College, supervising student teachers. Besides his wife, survivors include: one son, Chester J. Hoke, of Hanover; three daughters, Vivien Freeman, of Berwyn, Diane M. Rosborough, of Durham, Ct., and Violet Hoke, residing in Belgium; four grandchildren. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, September 10, at 1 p.m., in All Saints Episcopal Church, 890 McCosh St., in Hanover, with Rev. Douglas C. Smith presiding. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Hospice of the Visiting Nurse Association, 440 N. Madison St., Hanover, PA 17331. Arrangements by the Kenworthy Funeral Home, in Hanover.
