Richard Lee Shockley, 75, entered into rest on September 30, 2008, after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife Dottie; son, Stephen of Martinez; daughter- in-law: Debra and granddaughters: Lindsey and Caitlin; daughter: Teryl Klova and her husband: Jeffery and grandson: Stephen (Goo) of Sicklerville, NJ; brother: Bill of Savannah and sister: Sybil of Wharton, MD. He is preceded in death by his father: Henry W. and mother: Sybil Bertie Copps; stepmother: Lillie Mae Wallace Shockley and brother: Bob of Salisbury, MD. He was raised in Wilmington, DE as a life long Methodist who believed firmly in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. He attended public school before attending the University of Delaware. He then transferred to the Citadel and served his four years in A Company as a Private, Corporal, Sergeant and Lieutenant. As a member of the basketball team he was awarded States Honors in his Junior year and was a proud graduate of the class of 55. Upon graduation he was Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant and served in Fort Belvoir, VA; Fort Benning, GA and Karlsruhe, Germany. Upon discharge he served for 30 years in various sales and marketing positions. His love goes to the American Flag, The Citadel and the New York Yankees. He loved his wife of 53 years. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Citadel Brigadier Foundation, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston, SC 29409. A Memorial service will be held Friday, October 3, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Rev. Greg Hatfield officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
