Richard Dagnall Allen, 83, 122 Riverbirch Road, Bamberg, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Bamberg County Hospital, Bamberg. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Trinity United Methodist, Bamberg, with the Rev. Jim Dennis officiating. Burial will be in Bamberg County Memory Gardens. Mr. Allen was born March 26, 1919, in Bamberg, a son of the late Eugene Paul Allen and Mary Dagnall Allen. He was a graduate of Bamberg High School and attended The Citadel and Wofford College. He was a farmer, cotton broker and retired as Vice President from Rockland Industries and Bamberg Textile Mills in 1987. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, spending time with his family. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater. He was preceded by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Kemp Allen; one grandson, Richard Aubrey Palmer; and one great-grandson, Robert Eugene McCurry. Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Norma and Al Palmer, Paula Allen Tanner, Robin and Curtis Williams and Ricky and Robbie Kearse, all of Bamberg; one sister, Frances Allen Bradley of Moncks Corner; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Cooner Funeral Home of Bamberg. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church of Bamberg or The Education
