PITTS, Richard Entered into eternal rest on the morning of October 28, 2005, Richard Abraham Pitts, Jr., husband of Virginia Welch Pitts. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Abraham Pitts, Jr. are invited to attend the funeral services of the former, Sunday, October 30, 2005 at two o’clock in St. James Episcopal Church, James Island. Interment, Christ-St. Paul Episcopal Churchyard, Meggett, SC. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Saturday between five and seven o’clock. Mr. Pitts, Jr. was born March 13, 1945 in Charlotte, NC, the son of Richard Abraham Pitts and Frances Campbell Pitts. He attended East Mecklenburg High School and graduated from The Citadel in 1967 with a degree in History. He entered the United States Air Force Reserves and served twenty-seven years as a flight navigator. He was Squadron Commander of Marietta’s C-130, 94thAirlift Wing-700thAirlift Squadron at Dobbins Air Force Base in Atlanta, GA. He served his country during Vietnam and during Desert Shield/Desert Storm in the Gulf War. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal, and he retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was currently employed by United Health Insurance Company. Rick was very active in the Masonic Temple, James Island Lodge #396, there he served as Master during 1991. He enjoyed active involvement in St. James Episcopal Church and the Charleston Fellowship Society. He is survived by his Mother of Charlotte, NC; his wife of thirty-seven years of Charleston, SC; two daughters: Gina P. Lilienthal, M.D. of Murray, KY and Wendy P. Colvin of Winchester, TN; a brother, Bill Pitts of Augusta, GA, and a sister, Ann Briggs of Ninety-Six, SC: one granddaughter: Rachel Lilienthal.
