Reginald L. Dean Jr., 80, of Forest Grove, OR, died June 20, 2009, at his home. Services were held. Interment is to be at Arlington National Cemetery, Va. “Reg” Dean was born in Manila, the Philippines, June 29, 1928. His father served in the Army Corps of Engineers and the family lived in Missouri, Louisiana, Iowa and Maryland. He attended The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., and was editor of the literary magazine, took movies of football games and had a clandestine radio station. He married Mary Ellen Keenan in New Haven, Conn. In 1951, in the U.S. Army, he worked with tanks and armored vehicles in Germany and did research and development in Detroit. After retirement he attended American University. He then became a contractor for the Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen, after 35 years of marriage. In 1988 he married Carol Ann Smith. In 1991 he retired and started his own company. He retired again to pursue his passion, photography. While traveling, he had a stroke. Unable to speak, and with little mobility, he still enjoyed life, and moved from Virginia to Oregon. Survivors include his wife, Carol; his children, Reggie, Kelley, Ellen, Anne, Scott and Nicki; and 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Online guest book is at dvfuneralhome.com.
