Ray D. Hayes, Jr., of Hartsville, died Sunday, March 11, 2018. Funeral services for Ray Dee Hayes, Jr., 87, will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Greg Boyd will officiate with burial in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm 7:00 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. Born in Bainbridge, GA, he was a son of the late Ray Dee and Ella Stewart Hayes. Ray was a 1952 graduate of The Citadel and was a member of the prestigious Summerall Guards. He was retired from Sonoco Products Company with 45 years of service. He loved seafood, fishing and tinkering on his projects. He had a great determined spirit and would do anything for his daughters and grandchildren. Surviving are his daughters, Rebecca (Joey) Watkins of Hartsville, SC, Heather Hayes of Florence, SC, Deena (Jeff) Gainey of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Blake (Paten) Watkins, Russell Watkins, Madelyn Gainey, Megan Gainey; brother-in-law, Jimmy (Glenna) Tomlinson of Florence, SC; sister-in-law, Frances Hickox of Florence, SC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriett Tomlinson Hayes.
