Rankin Ray Rossell III, 74, of Montgomery, Ala., passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at his home. Ray was born on November 10, 1945, in Montgomery, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his father, Rankin Ray Rossell Jr.; mother, Ann Speight Worthington; and stepfather, James W. Worthington. He is survived by his wife of almost fifty-two years, Synetta Ferguson Rossell; daughter, Hayden Ashley Rossell of Denver, Colorado; sister, Regna Harper (Doug) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and nephews, Ward Anderson and Worth Anderson. After graduating from the Citadel in 1967, Ray worked in banking and real estate appraisal. He was a life-long music fan. He was a member of choirs at First Baptist Church and was especially passionate about The Living Christmas Tree having sung in each annual performance for thirty-nine years. Ray was devoted to bluegrass music and was an avid banjo player who enjoyed picking at jam sessions and playing in churches and nursing homes. He played with The Lighthouse String Ensemble and The Back Porch Pickers for many yearsSpecial appreciation is extended to Dr. Scott McDaniel and the staff at the Montgomery Cancer Center and to Ray’s Caregivers with Baptist Hospice and Williams Loving Care.
