R. Samuel “Sam” Grubb, 73, of Lewistown, PA, died at 11:31 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at his home. Born on June 4, 1940, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Ruben Clair and E. Mae (Shawver) Grubb. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half brother. Sam is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Pennepacker) Grubb, whom he married in 1988. He graduated from Lewistown High School in 1958, and from Citadel Military College, Charleston, S.C., in 1963. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps of Engineers for 20 years, including two years in Vietnam, and four tours each in Korea, and East Africa, retiring with various awards and decorations. He was a member of American Legion Post 90, Lewistown, VFW Post 5935, Belleville, and life member of Citadel Men. Sam enjoyed spending time at the railroad. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes Inc., Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Gary Roth officiating. A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Juniata Memorial Park. Memorial donations in Sam’s name may be made to Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, 50 Hudson Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044.
