Philip ( Nat ) Harold Chase, 72, of Charleston, died March 4th, 2008. Mr. Chase was born November 3rd, 1935, in Charleston, the son of the late Marty and Freda Chase. He was a graduate of the High School of Charleston (1953) and The Citadel’s famous class of 1957 with a BA in Business Administration. He worked with his father, brother and sons, in the family business, Chase Furniture Company, for over 50 years at 414 King Street. Mr. Chase served in the U.S. Army, based at the Transportation Depot in North Charleston, and retired with the rank of major. He was a member of the Brigadier Club of The Citadel, Hadassah Associates, the Charleston Jewish Community Center, the West Ashley Minyan of Brith Sholom Beth Israel Synagogue, Friendship Lodge # 9A.F.M. and his much-loved Wednesday night Courtinshpielers. He enjoyed attending games of all Citadel sports teams, fishing with his sons and grandsons at Folly Beach, spending time with his beloved family, dancing with his wife, and eventually, he realized his dream of having a get-away log cabin in the mountains of North Carolina. He and his wife, Leah, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past November with all of their family and friends. He is survived by Leah and his children: Stephen (Celia) Chase and grandson, Drew, of Charleston; David (Sue) Chase and grandsons, Daniel and Zachary, of Alpharetta, Ga; Benjamin (Susan) Chase and grandchildren, Sam and Hannah, of Charleston; Freda Chase of Annapolis, MD; brother, Joseph (Frances) Chase of Charleston; nephews, Ira Chase of Carrollton, GA; and Hy Chase of Charleston; niece, Andrea Chase of Westport, CN; sister-in-law, Ina Feinberg of Bethesda, MD; and his father-in-law, Morris Feinberg of Jupiter, FL. Mr. Chase died peacefully at the Hospice Center of Charleston. Contributions in his memory may be made to the New West Ashley Minyan (New ChasCom Fund, 4 Carriage Lane, Suite 406C Charleston, SC 29407) and/or the Addlestone Hebrew Academy (1639 Wallenberg Blvd., Charleston, SC 29407). Funeral services will be held graveside at BSBI Synagogue’s Cemetery on Sycamore Road, West of the Ashley, at 4:00PM Wednesday.
