Peter James Calamas Sr., 81, of Columbia, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013. Peter was born January 22, 1932, in Augusta, GA, and graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, SC, in 1953. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a fighter pilot flying an F-4 jet. While serving in Southeast Asia, he received three Distinguished Flying Cross Medals and an Air Medal. He retired as a lieutenant colonel. Peter was also an avid golfer. Surviving are his children, Peter J. Calamas, Jr., Michael W. Calamas, Terri L. McGarrigle of Columbia, and Lynn B. Roddy of North Augusta; a brother, Bill Calamas of Myrtle Beach, and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A graveside burial service will be in Bush River Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Ste. 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
