Paul Cope Pienody, 86, of Greensburg, Pa., passed away on Dec. 9, 2024. He was born Sept. 19, 1938, to Carl and Martha (Cope) Pienody. He was a proud graduate of Jeannette High School, where he played football (Go Jayhawks!). He graduated from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, with a degree in civil engineering. It was his Citadel brothers that honored Paul with the nickname “Whale.” He then served in the U.S. Army where he achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Paul was employed as a talented civil engineer supporting the creation and repair of many bridges and roadways within and beyond Pennsylvania’s borders until his retirement at age 70. Throughout his life he enjoyed skiing, fishing, running marathons, and making memories with his family and friends at Trails End hunting camp. What meant the most to him was time spent with his four favorite girls, grandson, and sons-in-law. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, and his dear brother, James Pienody. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (Dick) Pienody; daughters, Dana (Christopher) Ramirez and Lynn (Richard) Stepanik; grandchildren, Jillian Stepanik and Christopher Ramirez; sister, Jane Stefanon; and many nieces and nephews. Paul will be greatly missed not only by his family but also by his church family and many treasured friends. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Friday, at the Harrold Zion Lutheran Church, 671 Baltzer Meyer Pike, Greensburg, followed by a special service of remembrance at 11 a.m. MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME entrusted with arrangements.
