A Life Membership in The Citadel Alumni Association is a lasting way for parents, family members, and friends to celebrate a cadet’s or Graduate College student’s graduation. This special graduation rate of $400.00 is available through Commencement Day in May. However, to ensure your cadet/student receives their membership items with their classmates and be announced as a Life Member at Commencement, payment must be made in full by March 15. Memberships paid after March 15 may not have items ready for pick-up before or be announced at Commencement. The Citadel Alumni Association elections will occur between the dates of August 6 to September 10, 2026. Those wishing to run for an office in districts 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, or Association Vice President and those running for the CAA seat on The Citadel’s Board of Visitors should visit citadelalumni.org/about/elections for additional information and election packets. The 2026 deadline for the packet submissions is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8.

Throughout March, Citadel Clubs worldwide will commemorate the March 20 birthday of the S.C. Corps of Cadets, known as Corps Day, with their annual Muster formations. The name of the South Carolina Military Academy was officially changed to The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina through an act approved on February 25, 1910. This change was necessary to better reflect the institution’s academic mission. At the time, the term “Academy” had become associated with high schools rather than colleges, creating a misleading perception of The Citadel as something other than an institution of higher learning. The official name includes the word "The" twice, emphasizing the school's distinct identity.

CPT William F. Graham, USA, was appointed Superintendent of The Citadel by the Board of Visitors on February 24, 1843. He was born in Newberry, SC, and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1838. Graham served as The Citadel’s superintendent until his death on April 26, 1844, and is buried at Rosemont Cemetery in Newberry.
