Norris Harold Whitlock, M.P.H., 88, formerly of 658 Pawley Road, Mt. Pleasant, S.C., husband of Helen Grace Arensberg Whitlock for 62 years, died Monday, February 19, 2007 at Allen Bennett Hospital. Born in Buffalo, N.Y., he was the son of the late Norris Charles and Muriel Charlotte Donnelly Whitlock. Mr. Whitlock was a retired Epidemiologist with The Medical University of South Carolina. While in Charleston, he was a member of the Sertoma Club, Post 136 American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Sigma XI Scientific Research Society, American College of Epidemiology, the Retired Officers Association and the Association of Citadel Men. He was a United States Army Veteran having served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He received three Bronze Stars for Valor in combat. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Gene Barrineau of Charleston, S.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Norris Chip and Sandra Whitlock of Greer, Gary H. and Mary Whitlock of Elgin, S.C.; six grandchildren, Stephanie Whitlock Diamond, Ricky Barrineau, Andy Whitlock, Robbie Barrineau, Sarah Whitlock Lucas and Emily Whitlock; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Brad Whitlock and a sister, Helen Merlino. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 23, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown with visitation to follow.
