Joseph T. McElveen Jr.
Class of 1968
Elected Mayor of Sumter, SC in 2000 he is now in his 16th year and oversees a $60 million budget and more than 600 employees. Prior to assuming this important position he served as an officer in the USAF, on the Sumter Planning and Zoning Commissions as well the Sumter City Council and the SC House of Representatives for Sumter County. Since graduation in 1968 Mayor McElveen has dedicated his entire adult life to public service.
