Murray Leon Garber, 73, died January 3, 2019, at his home in Florence, SC. Mr. Garber was born in Williston, SC, on July 12, 1945, the oldest child of Yale Julian Garber and Mattie Coggins Garber. He graduated in 1968 from The Citadel and subsequently entered the US Air Force. While in the Air Force he served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged as a captain. Following the Air Force Mr. Garber was employed as a certified public accountant with a large regional accounting firm advancing to partner. Mr. Garber left public practice and became the comptroller of Young Pecan. Mr. Garber was baptized in the Williston Baptist Church, Williston, SC. After moving to Florence, SC he moved his membership to St. John’s Church and served as the church treasurer. Mr. Garber is survived by his wife, the former Frances Street Crayton, whom he married in Charleston, SC. He is also survived by his brother, David Reed Garber of Aiken, SC; his niece, Julie Garber McLain and her two children, Mattie Taylor McLain and Murray Reed McLain, also of Aiken. He was predeceased by his parents. His life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2019, at St. John’s Church of Florence with burial at 3:30 p.m. in Williston Cemetery, Williston, SC directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, at his residence.
