JANAS, Monica Monica Anne Janas, 57, died December 4, 2003, at her residence in Mount Pleasant, S.C. Born August 2, 1946, in Brockton, MA., she was the daughter of Edward Stanley Janas and Olga J. Marmish Janas. She was a graduate of Bishop England High School class of 1964; her BS from the College of Charleston; her Masters from The Citadel and Old Dominion University, VA.; and her doctorate in 1988 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She was Roman Catholic. She was a teacher for 34 years, beginning in 1970. Monica taught special education in Charleston County Public Schools; Public Schools in Suffolk, VA., for eight years; Public Schools in Conyers, GA.; and Sumter, S.C. She later taught in Berkeley County, S.C., in the Goose Creek area. Miss Janas was an Associate Professor Dept. of Education, College of Charleston at the time of her death. She received the Distinguished Teacher Award at the College of Charleston, the only member of the School of Education to be so honored. Miss Janas is survived by one sister, Sister Veronica Janas, OLM of Greenville, S.C., and two brothers, Michael A. Janas of Mesa, AZ., and Edward S. Janas of Navarre, FL. All services will be private.
