Millard Dealors Stafford Jr., Lt Col, USAF, Ret., of Rock Hill, died on July 10,2021.
A native of Rock Hill, SC, he was born on April 21, 1944 to the late Millard & Kathryne Steele Stafford. He was preceded in death by his beloved sweet heart & wife of 26 years, Martha Joyce Sippel Stafford. His younger brother, Joseph Earle Stafford also died earlier in a vehicle accident.
Staffy and Joyce had one daughter, Judith Rebecca who is married to Brian Wacaster of Rock Hill. They have two daughters, Allie Steele and Avery Kathryne who were adored by Staffy in his retirement, and who likewise adored him.
On graduation from the Citadel in 1966, Staffy made sixteen moves throughout the world, serving 25 years in the USAF as a career Security Police & Logistics/Acquisition Officer retiring in 1991. During his active duty, Staffy held both command and staff positions including Security Police Chief at two locations, a HQs USAFE/NATO Security Police Inspector at Wiesbaden/Sembach, Germany, the HQs Security Officer at SIXATAF/NATO, Izmir, Turkey & the Standardization & Interoperability Officer for Army, Navy, & Air Forces at HQs AFSOUTH/NATO, Naples, Italy. He also performed a year of Security Police duties at Da Nang, Vietnam in 1968/69. He was a graduate of the FBI Nat Police Academy, the Nat Defense Univ.’s Nat Security Management Course, & the USAF Air Command & Staff College. His military award & decorations include: The Bronze Star, both Defense & AF Commendation Medals with oak leaf clusters, both Defense & AF Meritorious Service Medals with oak leaf clusters.
Staffy then worked & retired from NRECA’s York Electric Co-Op after nineteen years. He was a loving husband, father & grandfather who enjoyed studying Revolutionary War history, being a word traveler, and avidly talking about local history by growing up & living on the 1820’s Avery plantation estate and descending from the Steele & Brandon pioneer families in York County.
Graveside services, with full military honors, will be held at 10am, Thursday, July 15 at the Ebenezer ARP Church Cemetery, Rock Hill, SC with Dr. Mel Wines officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service.
