Michael Lloyd Townes, 57, of 12 Inverness East, beloved husband of Jeanne J. Townes, died Saturday, May 08, 2004 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Millbrook Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Eddie Leopard officiating. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Park. A native and lifelong resident of Aiken, Mr. Townes was a son of Dorothy Prontaut Townes Weeks and the late George Anderson Townes, Jr.. He was a graduate of The Citadel, Class of 1969. Mike retired after 32 years as co-owner of Aiken Lumber Company. He was a former member of the board of Hitchcock Healthcare and also served on the mayor’s committee for the handicapped. Survivors, in addition to his wife and mother, include two daughters, Jennifer A. Townes, Loveland, Ohio, and Jeanne M. Townes, Columbia; a son, Andrew M. Townes, Columbia; two brothers, George A. Townes III, Hilton Head, and Paul B. Townes, Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sisters, Dorothy Lineberger, Charlotte, N.C., and Mary E. Greene, Aiken; and an uncle, Manning K. Owen, Aiken. Pallbearers will be Frank Jaskowiak, John Jaskowiak, Matthew Maier, Cameron Lineberger, Tom McClellan and Ray Feaster. Honorary pallbearers will be the Houston Brown Sunday School Class. Memorial contributions may be directed to Millbrook Baptist Church’s Building Fund or to St. Joseph’s Hospice. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday at the funeral home.
