Michael Jack Stogner, age 73, beloved husband and widower of Judith Dunlap Stogner, died on September 4, 2018. He will be remembered for his faith and devotion as a husband, son, brother, uncle and friend.
Michael was born on June 24, 1945, in Oneonta, NY, to Dempsey G. and Virginia R. Stogner. He was reared in Camden, SC, and was a graduate of Camden High School. After graduating from The Citadel, he served in Korea and at various stateside assignments while in the US Army during the Vietnam War era. He later earned a PhD from USC and an MSW from FSU.
Michael nobly served as Director for the Agency on Aging and Workforce Development for SC Appalachian Council of Governments. Following retirement, he devoted his time to traveling with Judy, serving his church, and enjoying time with friends and family. He was an active and committed member of First Baptist Church, Greenville.
Family members who preceded him in death are his wife, Judith; his brother, Don; his father, Jack; and his mother, Ginny. He is survived by a sister, Lynn Davies of Hillsville, VA, and 5 nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Carpenter Chapel of First Baptist Greenville at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 9. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 2:00-2:45 p.m. A private internment will be held.
In lieu of flowers, gifts are welcome to First Baptist Greenville.
