Maurice H. Tiny Bernstein, 77, passed away on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27, 2003, at a local hospital after a long illness. Graveside funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 30, at 11:00 am at Synagogue Emanu-El s Maryville Cemetery. Mr. Bernstein was born on April 14, 1926, in Charleston, SC, son of the late Manning Aaron Bernstein and Mildred Lowinger Bernstein. He was a graduate of the High School of Charleston and The Citadel. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Synagogue Emanu-El and life member of Friendship Lodge #9. Mr. Bernstein worked for over 50 years in retail sales at various Charleston locations, including Bob Ellis Shoe Store, Ellison s Shoes, and Rack Room Shoes. He attended services at Synagogue Emanu-El every day until he became too ill to do so and was a devoted congregant. After his retirement, he thoroughly enjoyed playing bingo with his Senior Friends. He was the best husband, father, and grandfather in the world. Mr. Bernstein is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Bernice Rudick Bernstein of Charleston; two devoted daughters and their husbands, Marcia and Sid Shealey and Faye and Dane Schupbach of Charleston; two adoring grandsons, Jason Shealey and Kevin Shealey of Charleston; two brothers, Fred Bernstein of Seabrook Island and Charles Bernstein of Mt. Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews. A son, Howard Del Bernstein, predeceased him. Donations may be made to one of the following: Synagogue Emanu-El, 5 Windsor Drive, Charleston, SC 29407 or the American Cancer Society, 267 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC 29401 or the American Heart Association, 409 King Street, Charleston, SC 29403. Friends may visit the family at Shiva on Sunday afternoon following the services and/or from Monday thru Thursday at 1844 Banbury Road in the Forest Lakes Subdivision off Hwy. 61.
