Mary Herbert Low, 67, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Robert Alan Low, Jr., entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 1, 2022. Her Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, October 15, 2022 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street at 11:00 a.m., where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Mary was born on September 18, 1955 in Cherry Point, North Carolina, daughter of the late Walter Worthington Herbert and Eloise Hutto Herbert. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Baptist College at Charleston (now Charleston Southern University) and her Master’s degree from The Citadel. She worked as a Guidance Counselor for the Charleston County School District for several years, as one of her biggest passions was helping people. Mary was an accomplished athlete and second to none on the tennis court. Throughout her tennis career, she held top rankings at the college and state level and won numerous titles in singles and doubles. Aside from her athleticism, Mary will be most remembered for her devotion to her family and friends, her kindness and generosity, and her love for animals. Anyone who knew Mary knew that her animals were most certainly part of the family. Mary is survived by her husband of 37 years, Robert; daughter, Lauren Emily Low, both of Charleston, SC; sister, Harriet A. Herbert; three brothers: Walter W. Herbert, III, Lester H. Herbert (Margo), Thomas J. Herbert; and niece, Alexandra R. Herbert. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
