Marlin L. Hulett, educator, passed away April 1, 2005 at St. Joseph s Hospital, Lewiston after a brief illness. Visitation was Wednesday, April 6, at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 9 at 2 p.m. at Orofino Tabernacle Church. Marlin was born December 10, 1928 at Colville, WA, a son of Oscar F. and Estella R. Brooks Hulett. He attended schools in Orofino. After being discharged from the Army Air Force, he attended The Citadel Military academy in Charleston, SC and majored in Political Science. He hoped for a career in the military but a physical exam dashed those hopes. Marlin married Arlene Coffland Parshall of Pullman, WA at Orofino on June 18, 1955. They were married just two and a half months short of 50 years. The Huletts moved to Spokane, WA where Marlin was employed by Phillips Petroleum Co. Three years and one child later, he attended the University of Idaho to obtain his masters degree in Education. He taught junior high in Pomeroy for eight years then moved to Fairbanks, AK as a junior high school principal. Comments of best teacher came from many former students. Several years later Marlin was promoted to Director of Education for the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. His health later failed and he retired not long afterward. When Arlene retired, they moved to Orofino where they made a home in the country. He worked hard, gardening, landscaping, building and enjoying family and friends. He helped raise a grandson, Khai. Marlin and Khai had a wonderful fishing trip to Alaska the summer of 2004. The highlight of the trip was when grandson locked grandpa in the cabin for several hours and the cabin had NO inside plumbing! Marlin was a war history buff and was also an avid sports fan. Marlin is survived by his wife, Arlene; and two children, a daughter Shannon and Joe Brightwell, locally; grandchildren Amity Schaff, Lynnwood, WA; Khai Hulett Brown and Trei Hulett-Trombley, both of Orofino; and a son, Major Whitney J. and Karen Hulett, Dayton, Ohio; grandchildren Andrew, Holly and Zachary and one great-grandchild, Nikolai Schaff. He is also survived by a brother Victor and Barb Hulett and sisters Estelle Cook and Vena Steward, all of Orofino and Dora and Carroll Schultze, Hemet, CA. He also has many nieces and nephews. Marlin s parents, a brother Oscar and nephews Timothy Steward and Calvin (Rick) Hulett preceded him in death. A loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend was Marlin. He will be missed by many.
