Marion M. Slattery, of Oakton, VA, died on Thursday, February 28, 2013. He was the loving husband of 62 years to Lelon Slattery and devoted father of Kevin Slattery. He was born in Laurens, South Carolina and was inducted in the Navy in January 1945 and was recalled to active duty in April 1966 to the Naval Ammunition Depot, Crane Indiana. Marion was a Civil Engineer and retired from the United States Navy. LCDR Marion M. Slattery was a 1946 graduate of The Citadel in Charleston, SC, with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. Prints of the drawings for the X-C7 Steam Catapault from Department of Bureau of Yards and Docks Navy Department designed and drawn by LCDR Marion Slattery are in the time capsule at George Washington University vault in “For the Future” to be opened in the year 2056. He was cited for exceptional performace while serving as Assistant Head Facilities Branch, Installations and Logistics Department by General P.X. Kelley, Commandant of the Marine Corps. “My beloved, across the years I will walk with you in deep green forest, on shores of sand, and when our time on earth is through in heaven, too, you will have my hand.” A Graveside service will be held at Quantico National Cemetery on Friday, March 8 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Seabee Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O.
