Dr. Mario Jesús Artime, of Atlanta, died peacefully on July 18, 2019. Mario was born on May 25, 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia to Mario José and Maria “Carmita” Artime. He graduated from The Citadel Military College in 1979 (Chemistry) and Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1983 (Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry). After completing dental school, Mario was commissioned as a Captain in the United States Army Dental Corp at Fort Stewart Army Base in Hinesville, Georgia. He was married to Isabel Maria Solés in 1979 and the couple had two children together, Joseph and Alexis. After suffering complications following brain cancer, Mario ceased practicing dentistry. He was an active and dedicated member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and a member of The Knights of Columbus. Mario spent his time volunteering with different organizations and teaching English classes to native Spanish speakers. He enjoyed reading, watching sports, current events, skiing (even participating in adaptive programs), and trivia, but mostly enjoyed being a father to his two children. Those who know Mario remember him as funny, animated, intelligent, and generous. Mario is preceded in death by his mother, Carmita Artime, and is survived by his father, Mario José Artime; son Joseph Mario Artime [Katana]; daughter Alexis Artime Barton [Jason]; grandchildren Lucy, Matthew, Samantha, Thomas and Francesca; brothers Henry Artime [Kimberly] and Joseph Artime [Ann Marie]; five nieces and nephews; and many more beloved family members. A funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, July 30th, 2019 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 2855 Briarcliff Road NE, Atlanta, Georgia. A burial will follow at Floral Hills Memory Garden, 3000 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker, GA 30084.
