Mrs. Marie H. Blanton, 91, died Wednesday, October 15, 2003, at Trident Medical Center after an illness. She was formerly of Marion. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas H. Blanton and a son, James Pell Blanton, Sr. Mrs. Blanton was born in Marion. She was the daughter of the late John and Marie Dunlop McIntyre Harrelson. She was also the great-granddaughter of the late Colonel James and Rebecca McIntyre Dunlop. Having been only three months old at her mother’s death, Mrs. Blanton was cared for by her grandmother and the McIntyre family on Wahee Plantation. She later became the foster child of Boyd and Jessie McIntyre Stanley. Mrs. Blanton attended schools in Marion, Winthrop College and the University of South Carolina. She was very involved in Community activities in Charleston. She was appointed Demonstrator of Teaching by the Charleston Education Department. After receiving a Masters Degree from The Citadel, she was selected Resource Teacher by the SC Department of Education and served at Angel Oak School until her retirement. Mrs. Blanton was a member of the President’s Club, Charleston Southern University and First Baptist Church. She and her husband owned and operated Garden Hill Florist. Mrs. Blanton is survived by a foster son, J. Norris Wall of James Island; a daughter-in-law, Annette Todd Blanton; two grandsons, James E. Wright of Summerville and James Pell Blanton, Jr., of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two granddaughters, Carolyn Blanton Harr of Kennesaw, Ga., and Debra Blanton Hawkins of Louisville, Ky.; and six great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion on Saturday, October 18, at 11 a.m. Services will be directed by RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME OF MARION.
