Lyle K. Briggs, of Dover, Del., passed away, Monday, May 24, 2021, at Kent General Hospital.
Mr. Briggs was born August 13, 1944, in Superior, Nebraska, the only child of the late Paul K. Briggs and June R. Liles Briggs.
He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education from The Citadel, Charleston, S.C., and his Master’s Degree in Education from Southern Illinois University. Upon graduation from The Citadel Mr. Briggs received his commission in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. He was later stationed in Germany. He continued to serve out his commission in the U.S. Army Reserves, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He served the U.S. Air Force in a civil service capacity in the Education Services Office at Dover Air Force Base, Rhein Main Air Force Base and Zweibrucken Air Force Base. A lifelong learner, he enjoyed music, traveling, reading, programming, genealogy, sailing and a good plate of barbecue. Mr. Briggs was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Dover and was a member of the choir and bell choir for many years.
Mr. Briggs is survived by his children, Paula Piccoli and her husband Robert of Madison, Wis. and Daniel Briggs of West Chester, Pa.; and grandchildren, Matthew Piccoli of Madison, Wis. and Zoe and Madeline Briggs of West Chester, Pa.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 209 S. State St., Dover, Del. at 10:30 a.m. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
