Luther A. Lown, 61, of Lexington, SC, died Aug. 11, 2012. Memorial service for Mr. Lown will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, August 26, 2012, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 2491 Emanuel Church Road, West Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends immediately after the service at the church. Luther passed away Saturday, August 11, 2012. Born on January 5, 1951 in Fort Meade, Maryland, he was the eldest son of Grace Farr Lown and the late (Ret Major) James Mendel Lown. Luther was a graduate of Lexington High School class of 1969 and The Citadel class of 1973 where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and was a Summerall Guard. He was a fifth generation Professional Land Surveyor and worked for South Carolina Department of Transportation as a Regional Supervisor of Pre-Construction Surveys. He served as the president of the Midlands Chapter of Professional Land Surveyors and was a member of the South Carolina Society of Professional Land Surveyors. He was previously employed by Associated Engineers and as Senior Engineer for Alabama Power. He was a Major in the United States Army Reserves and was previously a member of the South Carolina National Guard. Luther was an avid proponent of the Boy Scouts of America for more than 40 years and was currently the Scout Master for Troop 343 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He was a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow and was the proud father of two Eagle Scouts. He served as the president of the Lexington Citadel Club and a deacon of Covenant Community Church. Surviving are his loving wife of 33 years, Teresa P. Lown of Hephzibah GA; children, Luther Lee Lown II (Casey) of Columbia, Seth Atwell Lown of Dillon, Brooke Lown Barnes (Heyward) of Lexington; and siblings, Joan Lown Johnson (Offutt) of Houston TX, Martha Lown Roof (Stacey) of Lexington, and Jay Walter Lown (Vicki) of Due West.
