Col. Lewis B. Meng, USAF, Ret., passed away March 9, 2012, after an extended illness. His excellent care was directed by Catherine Rowland of Total Long-Term Care Consultant Services, and her professional staff of nurses and hand selected care givers. “”Bill”” was born in New York and grew up in Avondale Estates, GA. After high school, he attended the Citadel. While in the Air Force for 28 years he received several medals and accommodations including the Legion of Merit Medal. He was a WWII fighter pilot hero, and received the Silver Star (Jungles of New Guinea). While serving as base commander in Japan, he received the Japanese Medallion given by Chief of Tokyo, and the Key to Tokyo presented by the Mayor of Tokyo. His life was enriched by his many interests and hobbies. When he was growing up he had over 20 dogs and continued his love of hunting dogs his entire life. He was an expert gardener, golfer, and hunter. His main passion was fly fishing and tying flies. Bill and his wife, Lib, took yearly trout fishing trips to Montana, for over 20 years. He was preceded in death last year by his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth. He is survived by his brother, Jack (Ca); daughters, Lynn Johnson (Doug) Cocoa, FL, Wendy Kessler (Alan) Santa Fe, N.M., grandsons, Michael Johnson (Patty) Sanford, FL, Jordan Kessler Santa Fe, N.M.; and great-granddaughters, Mia and Lucy Johnson. The family would particularly like to thank Cathy, Mike, Catherine, Dee, Vicki, Cindy, Betty, Jo (Maxine) and Sybille for their loving care and devoted friendship to my Father and Mother.
