LeRoy Constantine Stille, Jr., of Lakeland, Fla., passed away peacefully of natural causes on Sunday evening May 19, 2013, just 22 days short of his 95th birthday. Roy, as everyone knew him, was born in Blackville, South Carolina on June 10, 1918. He was a 1938 graduate of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in Charleston with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Roy was a highly decorated World War II veteran, serving in the United States Army. He was a Company Commander of the 406th Infantry Regiment, 102nd Division. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star, the Silver Star, the European and American Theatre Medals and the Purple Heart. Following WWII, he served for 32 years in the US Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of full Colonel in 1978. He was a member of the Reserve Officers Association and the American Legion. Mr. Stille founded Stille Real Estate in 1956. He was a member and past president of the Lakeland Board of Realtors and was recently recognized as the oldest living member of that Board. He was a member and past Vice President of the Florida Association of Realtors. The National Association of Realtors designated Mr. Stille Realtor Emeritus in 2005, one of the first local board recipients. Mr. Stille was past President of the Lakeland Area Chamber of Commerce as well as past President of the Downtown Lakeland Kiwanis Club. He was a former Steward of the First United Methodist Church of Lakeland and active in Boy Scout Troop 725 as Scoutmaster. Roy was also an avid golfer. Mr. Stille is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Marcia McCathern Stille, his son, David L. Stille, his niece, Kathie Blue of Destin, his nephew, Clyde Harbeson and wife, Peggy and their daughter Stille of Santa Rose Beach. He was a valued friend and inspiration to all who knew him. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 2pm at First United Methodist Church.
