ROCK HILL — Mr. Lee Hamilton Thomas Jr., 84, died Thursday, July 15, 2004, at Carolina Village Rehabilitation Center. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. William C. Fender officiating. Burial will be 10:30 a.m. at Laurelwood Cemetery. A native of Sumter, Mr. Thomas was a son of the late Lee Hamilton Thomas Sr. and Dorothy Parkin Thomas. He was a graduate of The Citadel and was listed in Who’s Who among Colleges and Universities. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in North Africa and European theaters and the Korean War. He was a captain when he left the Army. He had a degree in civil engineering. He was the first planning director for the city of Rock Hill and set up the planning department. He also owned a construction development and realty company. Surviving are his wife, Susan Bynum Thomas; four sons, Lee H. Thomas III of Charlotte, Headen B. Thomas of Fort Mill, and J.M. Cherry Thomas and Alvis P. Thomas, both of Mount Pleasant; his daughter, Alice T. Faircloth of Greenville; two brothers, H.R. Pratt Thomas of Charleston and F. Parkin Thomas of Sumter; his sister, Dorothy T. Hunter of Columbia; and 14 grandchildren. The family will receive friends following the service Monday at the church.
