Lee Ashton Waters, 53, of Newnan, Ga., passed away at his White Oak home on March 11, 2013, following a more than seven year battle with colon cancer. He is survived by his wife of over 28 years, Regina Burt Waters, his son Sam, a teacher in Bangkok, his son Robert, a senior at North Georgia College, and his daughter Callie, a junior at East Coweta High School. He is also survived by his parents George and Barbara Waters of Newnan, his sister Beth Moody of Newnan, and several nieces and nephews. Lee was born in December of 1959 at the U.S. Army hospital at Fort Ord, California. He attended several schools in his early years as the military moved his family to numerous assignments. He attended O’Neill High School in Highland Falls, N.Y., where he was an outstanding student athlete. Upon graduation he received a soccer scholarship to The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. He graduated from college in 1982 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. During his college years he met his future wife, Regina, at their church’s college student ministry. They married in 1984. Lee continued his education at Georgia Tech earning a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering in 1994. Lee had a twenty-one year career as an engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In 2004 he moved his family from Heidelberg, Germany, to Newnan, Georgia, and began work as part of a construction contracting team at Hartsfield International Airport. In 2007 he joined Turner Construction in Atlanta where he remained until colon cancer forced his early retirement. Lee will be remembered as a strong, fun-loving man with a great sense of humor who dearly loved his family and the Lord. His family sincerely thanks their fellow church members at the Altar Church, their many friends, and the medical personnel who so strongly supported them through this difficult time with their prayers and service. It was through all these people and God’s power that Lee remained with his family for so long.
