STRICKLAND, SR., K.WEST COLUMBIA – Committal services for Laurie Kendall Strickland, Sr., 73, of West Columbia, will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, at Southland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, conducted by Reverend Mark Hathcox. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia.Mr. Strickland died Saturday, July 21, 2001. Born in Walterboro, he was a son of the late Dove Tiller and Cora Griffin Strickland. Mr. Strickland was a local resident here since 1955, and was a member of Heritage Presbyterian Church. He was retired from the State Tax Commission and graduated in 1952 from the Citadel. Mr. Strickland was a W.W.II United States Navy Veteran, serving in the South Pacific, and was a Purple Heart Recipient . He was predeceased by his sister, Lennis Hubster, and his brothers, Kline and Edward Strickland.Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Rusty Redmond of West Columbia; his sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Julie Strickland of Chapin, Tiller and Mary Strickland of Lexington, Doug Strickland of Pelion, and Phil and Debbie Strickland of Leesville; his sister, Mildred Chase of Interlachen, Fla.; his 13 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
