Larry Cleveland Batson, 74, passed away at his home in North Myrtle Beach on September 25, 2015. He was born in Greenville, South Carolina, a son of the late James Edwin Batson and Beatrice Parker (Morris) Batson. Mr. Batson was a retired general counsel for the SC Department of Corrections and practiced in all the State and Federal courts including the United States Supreme Court. He received his B.S. degree from The Citadel & his law degree from USC. He was an officer in the U.S. Army serving in Viet Nam in 1968. He was a past president and life member of the Southern States Correctional Association, a past member of the American Correctional Association and a member of the South Carolina Bar Association. He was a member of the Military Order of the Stars and Bars, a life member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, a past president and member of the Col. Lemuel Benton Chapter of the South Carolina Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, a member of Post 186 of the American Legion and a member of Post 10804 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by two sons. Larry Cleveland Batson, Jr. (Richenda) of Lexington, SC and Edwin Thomas Batson (Nadzeya) of Surfside Beach, SC; three grandchildren; brother James “Buddy” (Pat), two sisters, Mrs. Dick Britzuis (Barbara) and Mrs. Chuck McWhorter (Peggy) all of North Myrtle Beach; three nephews and three nieces; his two loves Rosco and Wellington and his companion Mary Armstrong. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, in Lee Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach, P.O. Box 3369, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582.
