Larkin Hamilton Jennings III, of Greenville, SC, died Friday, February 27, 2015.
He was a son of Mary Wallis Arthur and Larkin H. Jennings, Jr. of Union, SC. Survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy Thayer Jennings, of the home; his sons, Larkin H. Jennings IV and his wife, Debbie of Greenville, and Henry Thayer Jennings of Charleston; his grandchildren, Christopher and Courtney Jennings of Greenville; and his brother, Warren Jennings of DeWitt, Arkansas.
Mr. Jennings was a graduate of Georgia Military Academy. He attended The Citadel for two years before transferring to Clemson to study architecture. Larkin married Nancy in 1965 and settled in Greenville, where he worked for J.E. Sirrine and Daniel International before opening his own practice. He received his architectural license in 1972. Member of AIA, NCARB; and at his death was Emeritus Architect in the state of South Carolina.
Larkin enjoyed get-away weekends with the “good ole boys” of the poker club and time spent with his new acquaintances at The Cascades. He enjoyed nature, was an avid outdoorsman, where he spent many hours with his sons shrimping, fishing, crabbing and hunting. But, most important to Larkin was any time spent with his family and friends at the lake or at Edisto. He was a unique, special man that will be deeply missed.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 3:00 pm in Markley Chapel at Christ Church, Episcopal with the Reverend Jeffrey Meadowcroft officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 to 2:45 pm in the Arrington Room at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Edisto Island Open Land Trust, 547 State Highway 174, Edisto Island, SC 29438, or to Christ Church, Episcopal, 10 N. Church Street, Greenville, SC 29601.
