Kevin Todd Holcomb Sr., 66, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, US Navy submariner, and electrical engineer, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2026.
Kevin was born on November 28, 1959, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Ralph Edwin Holcomb and Janice Mae Kinter.
Kevin proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Radioman First Class (RM1/SS), serving aboard the USS Casimir Pulaski (SSBN-633) and USS Lewis and Clark (SSBN-644). His years in the Navy laid the foundation for a lifelong career in communications, technology, and engineering. Following his military service, Kevin continued his education, earning a degree in electrical engineering from The Citadel. He went on to a successful federal civilian service career supporting the United States Navy.
Kevin was an engineer through and through. Intelligent, analytical, determined, and occasionally stubborn, he had a remarkable ability to understand how things worked and a confidence in his own conclusions that those who knew him will surely remember. After all, he was an engineer. Of course he was right.
But beyond his professional accomplishments, Kevin’s greatest legacy was his family.
He shared 45 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Mary Catharine Holcomb. Together, they raised their children, traveled, celebrated life’s joys, and weathered its hardships. Their years together created a lifetime of memories and a family whose story will continue through the generations.
Kevin was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. While his career reflected his intelligence and determination, his family reflected the life he and Mary built together.
In his later years, Kevin faced the challenges of Huntington’s disease, which gradually affected his health. Yet no illness could erase the accomplishments, experiences, or remarkable mind of the man his family knew and loved.
Kevin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Catharine Holcomb; their son, John Michael “Mikey” Holcomb; granddaughter, Dana Marie Woods; his parents, Ralph Edwin Holcomb and Janice Mae Kinter; and his brother, Keith Holcomb.
Kevin is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Hill (Leonard), and his sons, Jeremy Holcomb (Megan) and Kevin Holcomb Jr. (Kelly).
He also leaves behind twelve grandchildren: Catherine “Katie Bug” King (Marty), Hannah Wedzinga, Benjamin Wedzinga, Brandon Hill, Melody Wilson, Kate-Lyn Copley, Alyssa Holcomb, Nathan Holcomb, Preston Holcomb, Luke Holcomb, Brayden Holcomb, and Aaliyah Holcomb; and two great-grandchildren, Gunner King and Zora King.
Kevin is also survived by his brothers, Michael Holcomb and Mark Holcomb; his sisters, Carolyn and Karen; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He will also be remembered by the many friends, former shipmates, and colleagues who were part of his life.
Losing Kevin and Mary has brought immeasurable heartache to those who loved them. After 45 years of sharing their lives, there is comfort in believing they have found one another again.
We find peace in imagining Kevin reunited with Mary, their son Mikey, and granddaughter Dana, free from the pain and limitations of this earthly life.
Kevin leaves behind a legacy of service, intelligence, perseverance, and family. He will be remembered in the stories shared, the lessons passed down, the laughter of those who knew him, and the generations who carry his name.
We will miss his voice, his knowledge, his humor, and his determination. We’ll miss his ribs and Lowcountry boils, too, and the memories made around the table. More than anything, we’ll miss our dad.
But we do not grieve without hope.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”
2 Timothy 4:7
Rest peacefully, Kevin. Your work here is finished, your suffering has ended, and your final watch is complete.
Fair winds and following seas, Dad.
Mom is waiting.
We love you. We’ll see you later.
