Kenneth W. Hendy, 95, of Rockport, Mass., passed away Tuesday morning, July 2, 2019 at Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester. He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth M. (Davis) Hendy. Born in Gloucester, son of the late Frederick C. and Alice Jane M. (Waters) Hendy. Kenneth was raised and educated in Gloucester and was a graduate of Gloucester High School with the class of 1941 and Hebron Academy in 1942. He attended the Citadel before WWII and Carlton College post war.
As an honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during World War II as a member of the 19th Bombardment Squad in the Pacific and as a member of the 93rd Bombardment Squad in Europe for the United State Air Force.
Mr. Hendy had been employed as a Postal Worker for the United States Postal Service for many years.
He enjoyed playing his trumpet from his high school days in the ROTC marching band and throughout his long retirement in various New England Shriner bands.
Surviving him are two sons, Laurence W. Hendy and his wife Laine of Medfield and Karlan F. Hendy and his wife Julie of Palm Coast, FL; one daughter, Marcia Jo Hendy and her companion Brian J. Tibbetts of NH; four grandchildren, Christopher Hendy and his wife Sophie, Lauren G. Hendy, Matthew Hendy and Jason Hendy.
His Graveside Service will be held at Wesleyan Cemetery, Gloucester on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kenneth’s name may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester.
