Kenneth M. King, 50, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on December 29, 2023, surrounded by family and friends. Born to his loving parents, Chris and Kay King, Ken was raised in Charleston. The 1991 alumna from Middleton High School went on to graduate in 1995 from The Citadel where he was a proud member of Charlie Company.
Ken grabbed hold of life – one that he lovingly shared with his high school sweetheart, Ashley Moore King, over their 27 years of marriage. He was the proudest father and could always be found coaching or cheering on his two children Travis and Ava. Some of his favorite moments were tailgating with family and friends at Clemson from where his son graduated and he recently and proudly learned his daughter will be attending in the fall.
Ken had an amazing spirit and drive which led him to success both as the owner of Metro Tool & Supply, Inc. as well as in his current role as Director of Sales with Freud where he was Salesperson of the Year. He never met a stranger and was known as the life of the party, someone who took an interest or saw a need and helped fill it. Whether stopping by to surprise you, helping to finish your latest home project, or hosting his beloved annual Christmas Eve celebration, Ken created lasting bonds and memories with so many. Despite a busy work schedule, he also found time to teach both lessons in baseball and life to the many players who called him “Coach” through St. Andrews Playground, Charleston Trojans, and most recently at West Ashley High School.
He is survived by his wife Ashley, son Travis, daughter Ava, mother and father Chris and Kay, brother Christopher (Shannon), brother-in-law Rhett Moore (Leslie), his two nephews (Cameron Moore and Ian King) and niece (Alexis “Lexi” Moore) and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. They share their grief with so many more who affectionately called him brother, uncle, coach, and friend.
The memorial service will be held January 7, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Grace on the Ashley Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in his memory to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance.
