Katherine “Kay” Ferris Coursey, of Beech Island, SC, wife of Marshall Douglas Coursey for 36 years, peacefully entered into rest on Friday, June 05, 2009 at the residence. Kay attended the Academy of Richmond County and graduated from Augusta State University (Augusta College), in 1972 at the age of 19. She earned a Master of Education from The Citadel in 1979. Her life long ambition was to be a guidance counselor working with young people. She was employed by Dorchester School District II and Aiken County Public Schools, retiring as a guidance counselor from Schofield Middle School in 2007 As a member of The Historic First Baptist Church of Beech Island, and the Encouragers Sunday School class, Kay sang in the choir, and taught children and youth groups. She was a member of the Beech Island Garden Club and the GaSCar (antique car) club. She enjoyed reading, needlework, gardening, and being outdoors. Predeceased in death by: Parents: Father: Holton K. Karr Ferris, II Survivors include her husband, Two Sons: Ronald Douglas Coursey, Marshall David Coursey, Beech Island, SC, and One Brother: Vernon S. Ferris, II, (Gwen) Evans, Ga. and Two Sisters: Lucyle G. Ferris, Augusta, Ga. Gwen Ferris Ewing (Mike), Christiansburg, VA, sister in law, Joyce (Dr.Fred) Marschalk, Augusta. Nephews, nieces, cousins, great-nieces and great nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at Historic First Baptist Church of Beech Island. Monday at 11:00 AM. Rev. Frank E. Barker officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be: Dr. Fred Marschalk, Jack Chumney, Mike Ward, Billy Peacock, Elwyn Beddingfield, and Claude Johnson The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services on Monday.
