Julian Hansford Allen, Lt. Col. USAF retired, aged 79, of Greenville, died Monday Sept. 14 at the McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville, SC. Born in Valdosta, GA, he was the son of Norman and Nan Pope Allen. He graduated from Valdosta HS, class of 1953 and from The Citadel, class of 1957. He then entered the USAF and served on active and reserve duty for 28 years. During his active duty he was stationed in Labrador, France, Belgium and finally Colorado Springs, CO. He graduated from the U of Florida College of Law in 1972, then returned to Colorado Springs where he practiced law for 26 years. Due to health issues he retired to Greenville, SC in 2003.
He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and was a past president of the Colorado Springs Numismatic Society. He served on the board of directors for Campfire, Inc. He is a member of the Colorado Bar and the El Paso County Bar Assn. He was a member of John Knox Pres. Church, Greenville, SC.
He is survived by his wife Margaret of the home; a son, Alex Allen (Amy) of Colorado Springs, CO; step son, John Lane (Jen) of Mill Valley, CA; step daughter, Rachel Vest (Jeff) of Colorado Springs, CO and six beloved grandchildren, Alaney, Aiden and Anna Allen, Joshua Lobaugh, Sara Vest and Caroline “CC” Lane. He was predeceased by a son Edward Nathan Allen.
