Jude Thomas Gehlmann, 70, of Moncks Corner, SC, a retired administrator, teacher, and coach for the Berkeley County School District and a retired comptroller for Lockheed Missile and Space Corporation, died May 19 in a Columbia long term care facility. His memorial service will be 4:30 PM Friday afternoon, May 22, 2015, in the CHAPEL OF DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:30 PM until the hour of service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, SC Chapter, 4214 Clemson Blvd., Ste. L, Anderson, SC 29621-1110, or to the St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, 1404 Old Hwy 52, Moncks Corner, SC 29461. Mr. Gehlmann was born September 2, 1944, in Johnstown, PA, a son of Theodore Roosevelt Gehlmann and Genevieve Tighe Gehlmann. He was a member of the St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, a member of the NEA, SCEA, BCEA, the Knights of Columbus, and was a former member of the Gamecock Club. Mr. Gehlmann received his bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina, his master’s degree from The Citadel, and his doctor of education degree from Nova Southeast University. He enjoyed working in his yard, rooting for his Gamecocks, and was a huge history buff. Mr. Gehlmann was preceded in death by two brothers, Theodore Gehlmann and William Gehlmann. Surviving are, his wife, Susan Gunter Gehlmann; three daughters, Linda T. “Terri” Gehlmann and Barbara A. Gehlmann both of Walterboro, and Blakely Copeland Cahoon and her husband, Frank, of Columbia; a son, H. Brooks Copeland and his wife, Julie, of Greensboro, NC; a sister, Gloria McGuirk and her husband, Leo, of Johnstown, PA; a sister-in-law, Arol Gehlmann of Johnstown, PA; two grandchildren, Mikaela M. Crosby of Moncks Corner, and Frank E. Cahoon, IV, of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews.
