Coach Joe Turbeville, 74 of Irmo, SC began his life in eternity on Monday, January 25, 2016. Turbeville, born on January 30, 1941 in Mullins, SC, was the son of the late Archie Harmon Turbeville and Edna Rodrigue Turbeville. He is affectionately known by most as “Coach”. As football coach and athletic director, he had the privilege of mentoring countless athletes both on and off the field. Coach Turbeville had many other names that he was extremely proud of he is the “Love of my life” to his wife of 53 years, Sandra Brown Turbeville. He is “Daddy” to his daughter, Kelly Turbeville Burney. He has been quoted as saying the most rewarding job he ever had was to be “Papa” to his granddaughter, Tori Grace Principi (20) and grandsons, Rowen Burney (14) and Campbell “Camp” Burney (12) and son-in-law, Rhett Burney. Joe is a former Citadel Cadet and proud alumni from the class of 1963. A former Citadel Offensive Lineman who played on the Tangerine Bowl team as well as the Southern Conference Championship team. Joe Turbeville was first and foremost a child of God who is now serving the Lord in heaven. He lived his life for this purpose. He was a deacon at Riverland Hills Baptist Church and a very active member of the Gideons International and FCA. Memorial Service celebrating the life of Joe Turbeville will be held at Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Irmo on Saturday, January 30 at 1 PM. The family will be receiving guests at Dunbar Funeral Home on Woodrow Street in Irmo on Friday, January 29 between 5 and 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in his honor to Riverland Hills Baptist Church, the Gideons International, and The Citadel Football Association. The family recognizes that many people may want to pay their respects and acknowledge the impact Coach Turbeville had on their lives.
