Joseph Lanham “Lanny” Montgomery, III, husband, father, grandfather, and public servant, of Simpsonville, S.C., passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at his home.
Mr. Montgomery was born April 17, 1941, in Laurens County to Joseph Lanham Montgomery, Jr. and Grace Godsey Montgomery. Lanny attended the Citadel and Oglethorpe University studying Civil Engineering. He met the love of his life, Tisha Gray in 1961, while she was attending Lander University. They married in 1969 and moved to Greenville, SC for Tisha to start a teaching career and Lanny to pursue his dreams of opening his own surveying company. After owning and operating Montgomery Surveying company for many years, he decided he wanted to do more for the city of Simpsonville and the residents there. He was an elected City Council Member, former Mayor of Simpsonville, and a retired Simpsonville City Judge. He also served in the SC State Army Guard.
He is survived by his children, Meredith Montgomery Kinard, Valerie Montgomery Bridges and her husband Michus, and John Justin Montgomery and his wife Kellie. His grandchildren Harry Kinard, Micah Bridges, Mary-Lanham Bridges, Crews Bridges, Montgomery Bridges, Hayden Montgomery, Lane Montgomery, Parks Montgomery and Finley Montgomery. Lanny was preceded in death by his wife Tisha just 290 days ago on January 31, 2021.
A Memorial Service will be held on November 30, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Simpsonville, SC.
