Joseph Kline Strickland, Jr., age 73 of Sautee, Ga., passed away on August 12, 2018.
Mr. Strickland was born on November 1, 1944, in Walterboro, South Carolina, to the late Joseph Kline and Marcaliese Ackerman Strickland. He graduated from The Citadel, Georgia Southern University, LSU School of Banking, and UNC Chapel Hill Executive School. After finishing college, Joseph worked as a bank president for C&S Bank of Georgia, region executive for NationsBank in South Carolina, and president of Main Street Bank in north Georgia. He was a member of Nacoochee United Methodist Church and had served as lay leader for the Savannah district of the Methodist Church. He was also a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam. He earned the rank of Captain, and was awarded the bronze star during his service in Vietnam. He was a radical, insatiable Georgia Bulldog fanatic, and followed every moment and recruiting victory.
Survivors include his wife, Janet DeLoach Strickland, Sautee; daughter, Jennifer DeLoach Strickland Armstrong, Athens; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Kline Strickland III and Altra Renee Strickland, Greenwood, South Carolina; grandchildren, Mary Caroline Armstrong, Anne Marie Armstrong, and Joseph Scot Armstrong, Jr.; sisters, Nancy Strickland Truluck, Pawleys Island, South Carolina, and Patricia Strickland Avant, Walterboro, South Carolina.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the Nacoochee United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 P.M. Saturday in the fellowship hall of Nacoochee United Methodist Church.
