GARNER, III, Joe Entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of April 3, 2005, Joe Frank Garner, III, M.D., husband of Carolyn Hottinger Garner. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of Dr. and Mrs. Joe Frank Garner, III are invited to attend the funeral service of the former, Thursday, April 7, 2005 in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church at eleven o’clock. Interment, Bethany Cemetery. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Wednesday between five and seven o’clock. Dr. Garner was born August 3, 1935, in Conway, SC, the son of Joseph Franklin Garner, Jr. and Christine Dusenbury Garner. He was a graduate of Conway High School, a 1957 graduate of The Citadel, and a graduate of The Medical University of South Carolina. He served in the U.S. Air Force during Viet Nam. Dr. Garner was an Ophthalmologist with Carolina Eye Care Physicians, LLC. He was a member of the Carolina Yacht Club, The Charleston Club, Executive Association of Greater Charleston, The St. Andrew’s Society, The Hibernian Society, St. Andrew’s Rotary, and The Citadel Brigadiers Club, and Sons of Confederate Veterans. In addition to his many social organizations, Dr. Garner was also a volunteer. Since 1975 he spent two weeks each year offering medical assistance to The Republic of Haiti. His work was spent as a surgeon and educator and helped build bridges between cultures. He is survived by his wife of Charleston, SC; one daughter: Mary Chris Luebchow and her husband Dave of Charleston, SC; two sons: Joe Frank Garner, IV, and his fiancé Michelle of Charleston, SC and Greg Garner and his wife Adina of Charleston, SC; four grandchildren: Hunter, Ellie, Adela, and Boone.
