Joseph A. Baroody FLORENCE Joseph Annise Baroody, 76, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at his home after an illness.Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 2, in First Presbyterian Church, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence, 817 Juanita Drive, Florence.He was born in Florence, a son of the late N.B. Baroody Sr. and Selwa Baroody. He attended Florence schools and was a business major at The Citadel. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He served as salesman and manager of N.B. Baroody Wholesale Co. until his retirement in 1991.Mr. Baroody was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and as chairman of the Board of Deacons.Mr. Baroody was a member of the Board of Trustees for the Florence Little Theatre and was a past president. He also served as chairman of the Building Fund-raising Committee.He was also past president of the Lions Club and the Community Concert Association. At one time, he was vice president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He served on the boards of directors of Peoples Federal Savings Bank and First Financial Holding Co. of Charleston. He was also chairman of the Board of Pine Haven School for Children. Mr. Baroody was a Mason and a Shriner.Joe was a great lover of the outdoors. He was known as an excellent hunter and fisherman, and was one of the first individuals to successfully troll for flounder in Cherry Grove Inlet.Survivors include his wife, Margaret Peters Baroody of the home; three daughters, Adele Baroody (Mike) Weatherford of Florence, Peggy Baroody and Selwa Baroody, both of Philadelphia; a brother, Dr. N.B. (Margaret) Baroody of Florence; two sisters, Adele B. Kassab of Florence and Florence (Eddie) Kassab of Philadelphia; and three grandchildren, Margot, Gordon and Hampton Weatherford.He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, John Kassab, and a sister-in-law, Ramona Baroody.Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 700 Park Ave., Florence, SC 29501.
