Jake (JT) Gressette passed away on January 26, 2024, at Rolling Green Village in Greenville.
Jake was born on April 20, 1929, to the late William Nathan Gressette & the late Carolyn (Moore) Gressette in St. Matthews, SC.
Jake graduated from The Citadel, The Military College of SC, in 1950, with a degree in Civil Engineering. After beginning his career with the SC State Highway Department, he became a Project Manager for JE Sirrine, later to become CRS Sirrine, in the Pulp & Paper Division. Jake’s work took him across the country. His first stop was in Hodge, LA, where he met and married his beloved Jo Ann Adams. His final project was for Union Camp in Eastover, SC, 45 minutes from his hometown.
Following time at The Citadel, he was in the Army Reserves. An active member of Edwards Road Baptist Church, he served as church treasurer and deacon for many years. Jake was also an active member of the Gideons. He was a member of Sertoma Club and served as Chapter President. He was also a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and served in leadership there as well.
Jake was an avid college football fan following most of the state teams. He also loved baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves. Among his many interests was his work on family genealogy.
Jake was predeceased by his wife, Jo Ann. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Corbett (Barney) and LeeAnne Cowart (Glenn). He is also survived by his grandsons, Kenyon Cowart, Sam Cowart (Maddie), Cliff Corbett and Will Corbett.
Services will be held at Edwards Road Baptist Church, 1050 Edwards Road, on Friday, February 23rd. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:30 – 1:45. The service will begin at 2:00.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Edwards Road Baptist Church, The Gideons or Rolling Green Village.
