John Richard Wertz, 75, of North Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest the morning of Tuesday, November 18, 2008,. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Wertz are invited to attend the Graveside Funeral Service of the former at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC Friday November 21, 2008 at 12:30 PM. Arrangements are by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTH AREA CHAPEL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Charleston, Inc., 3870 Leeds Avenue, Suite 101, N. Charleston, SC 29405. Born December 3, 1932 in Orangeburg, South Carolina, Mr. Wertz was the son of the late John Herman and Alyce Tanner Wade Wertz. Mr. Wertz graduated from Carlisle Military Academy and attended the Citadel. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, past Commander and past District Commander for four years, Finance Officer for thirty years of The American Legion, also a fifty year member of 40-8 and past Chef-de-Gare 974 Voiture. Mr. Wertz was also a veteran of the US Air Force. Surviving Mr. Wertz are his wife: Lucia Lu Bowie Wertz of N. Charleston; a son: John R. Wertz, Jr. of Summerville; two brothers: Dr. James Herbert Stevenot and wife Charlotte of Way Cross, GA and William W. Wertz and wife Claire of James Island and three grandchildren.
