Dr. John Pitts Brown, Jr., of Lake Toxaway, NC, passed away June 11, 2017. He was born in Laurens, SC, to the late John Pitts Brown and Margaret Wright Brown Barnett.
He graduated from Laurens High School and attended The Citadel before joining the United States Navy in World War II.
He graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1950 where he was a member of PI Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
He later graduated from The Medical University of South Carolina where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his internship and residency at The Medical University of South Carolina and The University of Miami and Jackson Memorial Hospital.
He practiced Internal Medicine and Cardiology in Vero Beach, FL, with Dr. Ernest Reeves. In 1977, he attended The Royal Infirmary in Glasgow, Scotland, and then practiced Rheumatology until his retirement to Lake Toxaway, NC.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Childs Brown; daughter, Margaret (Peggy) Brown Crow and husband, Gary Fowler Crow of Laurens, SC; and grandchildren, Gary Fowler Crow, Jr. and Malisa McCune Crow, both of Greenville, SC.
A service was held graveside at Laurens City Cemetery on June 15, 2017, officiated by Reverend Marc Coker.
