MOORE, John CHARLESTON – Mr. John North Moore, 85, of 113 Chadwick Drive, Charleston, died Tuesday Afternoon, December 13, 2005, at Heartland of West Ashley in Charleston. Funeral services will be held on December 15, 2005 at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Charleston. Private interment will follow the service. Mr. Moore was born in Charleston on January 14, 1920, and was the son of Alexander Mazyck Moore and Emilie North Smith. He graduated from Charleston High School in 1937 and The Citadel in 1941. He served in the Pacific Theatre in World War II and the US Army Reserve until he retired a Lieutenant Colonel in 1970. He was in real estate and later practiced as a fee appraiser as a member of the Veteran’s Administration and federal Housing Authority Appraisal Panels until his retirement in 2002. He was a lifelong member of St. Philip’s Church and sang as a soloist and served as a lay reader for many years. He was a member of the vestry of the St. Philip’s for four years. He was a dutiful blood donor every three months until 1974 when a bout with cancer made him ineligible. He was a member of First Families of SC, the Society of Colonial Wars, and the Huguenot Society. His wife of 59 years, Christine MacDonald Moore of Charleston; a son, John North Moore, Jr. of Galveston, TX; a daughter, Mary Helen Moore Woodall of Columbia, SC and two grandchildren, John North Moore, II of Charlotte, NC and Lawrence Moultrie Woodall of Columbia, SC survive him. A sister, Margaret Bullantyne Moore Bates and a brother, Alexander Mazyck Moore, Jr, who is survived by a wife, Joan Boatwright Moore, and three children preceded him in death.
